We are very happy to share that En Aawa Trees Foundation has been officially granted observer status to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), following the decision made at the COP16 held in Riyadh in December 2024. This achievement marks a significant milestone for our organization and reflects our dedication to addressing one of the most pressing issues of our time.
This recognition comes after our active participation in the conference, where we engaged in meaningful discussions and collaborated with various stakeholders. Our new status enables us to join the global dialogue on critical matters pertaining to land degradation, desertification, and drought. We are excited about the opportunity to contribute to the shaping of policies and actions that will have a lasting impact not only in our communities but also on a global scale.
We commend the UNCCD for its leadership in uniting civil society organizations from around the world in this urgent fight against desertification. We are honored to be recognized among such esteemed organizations, all committed to this vital cause. While our tree planting and restoration efforts focus primarily on communities across Nigeria and the Sahel region, we recognize that the challenges we face are interconnected and require a collective response. Therefore, we must broaden our scope of thinking and collaboration to address these global issues effectively.
As an accredited civil society organization (CSO), we are fully committed to working closely with other organizations across different regions to drive sustainable land use, protect vulnerable ecosystems, and bolster resilience for future generations. Our goal is to empower local communities while simultaneously contributing to global strategies for environmental sustainability and climate adaptation.
Together, as part of a vibrant global movement, we are determined to restore our land, promote sustainable practices, and secure a brighter future for all. We invite everyone to join us in this vital journey towards fostering a healthier planet and a sustainable future.
