Planting New Trees
About Us

En Aawa Trees Foundation is a registered (RC: 7113042) Non-Governmental Organisation dedicated to combating desertification and deforestation.

We believe that by actively engaging in afforestation initiatives, we can contribute to a greener and more sustainable future for generations.

We aim to reverse the catastrophic effects of desertification and deforestation across the Sahel.

Our Vision and Mission

Our vision is to reverse the effects of deforestation and desertification. Our mission is to undertake afforestation projects, focusing on planting and nurturing trees in degraded areas, deforested regions, and urban spaces.

Our Objectives

Afforestation

Afforestation

Our primary objective is to undertake afforestation projects, focusing on planting and nurturing trees in degraded areas, deforested regions, and urban spaces. We aim to restore biodiversity, prevent soil erosion, and enhance ecosystem health through tree-planting initiatives.

Reforestation

Climate Change Mitigation

We recognize the indispensable role of trees in combating climate change. Trees act as natural carbon sinks by sequestering carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen. En Aawa aims to contribute significantly to climate change mitigation efforts through afforestation, helping to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat global warming.

Education and awareness

Education and Awareness

We believe in the power of environmental education and awareness to inspire action and behavioural change. We conduct workshops, training programs, and awareness campaigns to educate communities about the importance of afforestation, sustainable land management, and environmental stewardship.

Community planting trees

Community Engagement

We actively engage with local communities, empowering them to participate in our afforestation projects. We collaborate with community members, landowners, and indigenous groups to ensure their involvement in decision-making, project implementation, and the long-term management of forests. We also strive to create sustainable livelihood opportunities for communities through agroforestry and sustainable forest-based enterprises.

Research and Innovation in afforestation

Research and Innovation

We foster research and innovation in afforestation techniques, forest management practices, and sustainable land use. By integrating state-of-the-art technology, we aim to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of our afforestation projects while promoting sustainable practices that balance ecological, social, and economic aspects.

Policy and Procedure

We recognise the importance of collaborating with government institutions. We work with officials on comprehensive policies addressing deforestation and desertification's root causes. This also ensures that our initiatives are aligned with national, regional and global sustainable development goals.

Going into the Future
2024
2025
2027
2030

En Aawa Trees Foundation was established in October, 2023. Our target is to plant a modest 1,000 trees by the end of our first year.

En Aawa will collaborate with partners to plant 10,000 trees through 2025. Also, we aim to launch our Research and Education departments

We hope to reach 200,000 trees by 2026. Additionally, we will be launching our Advocacy department to influence policy.

We hope to reach a major milestone of 1,000,000 trees. Significantly contributing to the battle against climate change.

Where We Work

En Aawa is currently working with community members in Adamawa state, northeast Nigeria. This region is particularly vulnerable due to low and erratic rainfall leading to soil erosion, loss of vegetation cover, and decreased agricultural productivity. Nigeria loses approximately 350,000 hectares of land to desertification annually, with northeast Nigeria being the most affected.

Our Approach

Collaborative Partnerships

We forge partnerships with local communities, governmental organizations, academic institutions, and corporate entities to pool resources, expertise, and networks. By collaborating, we can maximize our impact and leverage diverse perspectives and resources for more effective afforestation efforts.

Monitoring & Evaluation

We employ rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems to assess the success and impact of our afforestation projects. This helps track tree survival rates, biodiversity recovery, carbon sequestration, and the socio-economic benefits generated for communities. These insights enable us to continually learn and improve our approaches.

Project Implementation

Our organization carries out site assessments, develops comprehensive project plans, and employs skilled teams to execute afforestation initiatives. We carefully select native tree species suitable for the specific ecosystem, ensure proper planting and nurturing techniques, and monitor the progress of the projects over time.

Advocacy & Policy Influence

We actively advocate for policies and regulations that support afforestation and sustainable land management. Through collaborations with policymakers, advocacy campaigns, and participation in relevant forums, we work to influence decision-making processes at local, regional, and international levels.
