Tree planting initiative in partnership with students of the American University Nigeria (AUN)
100 Trees planted in Yola South, Adamawa state, Nigeria.
Saturday, 18th November 2023. En Aawa Trees Foundation collaborated with students of the Department of Communication and Multimedia Design at the American University of Nigeria (AUN) to plant trees at different locations within the Wuro Hausa community in Yola South. The project conceived and initiated by the students aims to improve air quality, provide shading and beautify the community. The trees were planted mostly in open public spaces. However, some community members invited the students to plant inside their compounds,
The urban afforestation initiative was very well received by community members of all ages and backgrounds with a majority expressing their appreciation and confidence in the benefits of the project with one community leader saying:
“This project is apt, as it addresses challenges caused by climate change, including deforestation. The project is laudable, encouraging, and beneficial, as it also enlightens the community on the importance of trees. Trees like mango provide food and shade. As a community, we will closely guard these trees”
The students stated that the class decided to embark on the project in line with the development agenda of AUN to impact positively on their immediate community. Adding that the project attracted other benefits, and united the community. One student stated that "These trees will still be here, long after we graduate from AUN”.
The students will continue to work with other community members to nurture the trees and ensure sustainably with a lasting impact.
